This article discusses the ever important movie "Black Panther." Black Panther is the long awaited super hero movie with a completely african american cast. This movie represents diversity in such a big way that it would be impossible to not bring it up in a discussion about diversity. Historically black people have experienced if not none then close to nothing in regards to representation in hollywood. Finally after a long awaited time the movie dropped and completely shattered box office expectations. It was so popular because the public supported it! I think this is an obvious reaction that will lead to more movies and hopefully more representation in all different areas for African American citizens. This article not only discusses "Black Panther" but also discusses the rich African influence the movies has. You can see it across all the costumes and characters themselves. I think that was vital and important. The movie could have done an all black cast but then white washed them in the same old outfits and stereotypes that other superheros play in other movies. The creators paid homage to ancestors of the African American community by tying in cultural dress, head dresses, jewelry, etc into the whole movie. This is the representation we need. Not African American people being represented if they assimilate to our colonial white culture. No, we need representation that honors their background, and their beliefs, and their culture. Regardless of what it is.
